Dr.Min Zhang and Dr. Baocheng Chen’s groups latest research showed that trace substance synergists have great potential in controlled-release urea area.

May 14, 2020, Dr. Min Zhang and Dr. Baocheng Chen’s groups from National Engineering Laboratory for Efficient Utilization of Soil and Fertilizer Resources in Shandong Agricultural University co-authored a manuscript entitled “Paecilomyces variotii Extracts and Controlled-Release Urea Synergistically Increased Nitrogen Use Efficiency and Rice Yield”. They determined the endophytic fungi extract-ZNC’s molecular composition and revealed the synergistic effects of ZNC with controlled-release urea on rice yield and nitrogen use efficiency.

Paper highlights

1. Trace amount synergists—chemical and molecular component determination.

ZNC is an innovation product of Shandong Pengbo Biotehcnology Co., Ltd. It is a product of endophytic fungi metabolites and is a new leading biostimulant globally.

1. Trace amount synergists—ultrahigh activity, extremely low usage can produce huge energy.

Combining controlled-release urea with ZNC at a dose of 87.5 ml/ha is recommended and showed highest rice yield increase.

1. Trace amount synergist—Ultrahigh efficiency can help promote fertilizer use reduction and efficiency improvement.

Research showed that controlled-release urea combined with ZNC can greatly improve nitrogen uptake efficiency (improve 15-20%). Meanwhile, spray ZNC on the surface of controlled-release urea showed synergy effects and can lower the risk of crop yield loss.

                                           Further studies

Researchers indicated that, based on the synergistic effects of ZNC and controlled-release urea on improving N uptake efficiency and crop yield, follow up studies will be done on combining ZNC with reduced nitrogen fertilizer aimed at investigating crop yield performance and fertilizer usage efficiency. We hope future studies can provide new directions for fertilizer industry upgrade, fertilizer usage reduction and efficiency improvement.
